My last post on Palm Oil where I wrote the disadvantages of using Palm Oil has been making headlines again. Recently on BBC you might have read about deforestation in Indonesia and Malaysia. In total these two countries cover 80% of palm oil production. According to the article, most of the people came out of poverty because of Palm Oil business.
I feel really sad when I see it is all happening at the cost deforestation. Imagine someone comes up and destroy your house and leave you homeless. The Orangutan might be feeling the same. They are extremely territorial but their home is being destroyed because of our needs.
Alternative vegetable oils include soybean, rapeseed, and coconut as well as less common jatropha and jojoba. These have passed the hurdle of technical feasibility but still present challenges in terms of affordability, acceptability, and sustainability.
It is difficult to move on from Palm oil, I have to agree with it. Palm Oil is being used everywhere and we can’t help it.
This is considered as a Golden Crop for a reason but in last 40 years, 30% of the forest has been cut down in Borneo. The demand for this crop is going to increase by 50% in next 10 years. But imagine by what rate the forest will be cut down? Is it really worth it?
Do you have any suggestions?
